The 49ers are one of the fastest boats in the Olympics. We were on board USA 1105 with Eric Storek and Trevor Moore, also boat USA 1214 with Alex Bishop and Val Smith. The winds were 12-14 with small chop but these boats certainly exceed the wind speed.
We used the rail mount from the multipupose package using a 2" shaft clamped on the stern of the boat and facing either starboard or port...these are wide boats! I also had to use a shorter counterbalance shaft then added an extra weight to keep the profile low.
